Our History
The Chinese American Citizens Alliance Portland Lodge was founded on February 24, 1921. This came some months after first receiving approval from the Board of Grand Officers to charter a Portland Lodge.
The beginning of the Portland Lodge was a greater success than expected. The charter president, Lee Hing, had originally believed that only 60 Chinese American citizens had signed up. It was later announced, by the Oregon Journal, that 150 citizens had paid to become a member. Mayor Baker of Portland and Local District Attorney Evans were among the attendees at the Lodge’s open house, located near Chinatown.
Grand President Leong Know, from San Francisco, played a crucial part in the development of the Portland Lodge, assisting in administering the oath of office to the new officers.
